Volunteers vital to Clare Civil Defence operations
Stevie Hayes of Clare Civil Defence joined Alan Morrissey on Clare FM’s Morning Focus to talk about his experience of volunteering and following in the footsteps of family members.
He spoke about the vital role of Civil Defence volunteers, whose training, dedication and teamwork can make the difference between life and death.
As Clare prepares to become European Volunteering Capital 2027, Stevie’s story is a reminder of just how much volunteers contribute to our communities and the lives they help to save every day.
Clare Civil Defence is part of the national Civil Defence network in Ireland, a volunteer-based organisation that supports emergency services and communities across the country. Established in 1950 under the Department of Defence, Civil Defence was originally formed to provide aid and protection to civilians in the event of wartime emergencies. Over time, its focus evolved to address peacetime challenges such as natural disasters, severe weather events and major public incidents.
