The importance of making volunteering more accessible ahead of 2027

The importance of recognising volunteers and making volunteering more accessible was discussed on Clare FM’s Morning Focus as Clare prepares for its year as European Volunteering Capital 2027.

Pat Sexton, Acting CEO of Clare Sports Partnership, joined presenter Alan Morrissey to discuss volunteering in sport, the value of recognising those who give their time to their communities and the opportunities presented by Clare’s European title.

During the interview, Pat highlighted an approach advocated by Clare Volunteer Centre which focuses on making volunteering opportunities clearer and more accessible to prospective volunteers.

As Clare looks ahead to 2027, European Volunteering Capital will provide an opportunity not only to celebrate the thousands of people who volunteer across the county, but also to examine how volunteering can evolve to reflect changing lifestyles and community needs.

Making volunteering more flexible, accessible and welcoming will be an important part of ensuring that more people have the opportunity to get involved and that community organisations can continue to benefit from their contribution.
